| Career History | I grew up in Nara Prefecture, which has no coastline, until I graduated from high school. Then, when I went to college, I left the prefecture to study the ocean, its surrounding environment, and marine life. I grew up in a family that loved the outdoors, so I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve visited Iriomote Island for fun. Although I’ve only been a resident of the island for about half a year, I’m confident I can enjoy the island better than anyone else. |

― What I Value Most as a Guide ―
— The Story of Shunto Okuno —
I studied the ocean and fish in depth at university, and I was captivated by the charm of this bountiful sea. When I visited for an internship, I was warmly welcomed and had a wonderful time, and right then and there, I was convinced that “this is the island where I belong.” After graduating from college, I joined the company as a new graduate.
The beauty of this ocean is by no means a given. No one knows how long this scenery—which we now take for granted—will last. For those of us who work with the ocean, this is deeply saddening. That is precisely why we hope that every guest visiting this place today will enjoy the ocean to the fullest. We also hope you’ll etch the beautiful scenery before your eyes into your memory and cherish it as a cherished memory for years to come.

— Customer Feedback for Okkun —
I went snorkeling at the coral reef and Baras Island!
They lent us life jackets, goggles, water shoes, and fins, so we were able to participate with almost nothing in hand! The guide took photos for us with both a smartphone and an underwater camera, so we didn’t have to use our own phones! (The photos turned out absolutely stunning!)
We were blessed with great weather, and the water was incredibly clear—I was thrilled by the fish from start to finish! The sandy beach on Baras Island was submerged at high tide, but the contrast between the white sand and the emerald blue water was so beautiful that I could have stayed underwater forever!
Although there was a strong current due to the spring tide, our friendly and fun guide (Okkun) kept checking in with us and leading the way, so I was able to relax and focus on enjoying the underwater scenery♪
It was my first time snorkeling, but since I could hold onto the guide’s float with a rope attached, even someone like me who isn’t a strong swimmer could enjoy it!
My 8-year-old son loves fish and was thrilled! Our guide, Okkun, knows a lot about fish (omitted)... I highly recommend this for anyone who loves fish! You'll get to see all kinds of fish♪
See you next year~!!!
I went on a half-day snorkeling tour of Baraas Island.
I received a confirmation call the day before the event, which allowed me to prepare and wait for the ride smoothly.
On the day of the tour, our guide, Okkun, welcomed us with lots of energy, and it was fun hearing all kinds of stories about the island. The tour itself was absolutely fantastic—we got to enjoy the beautiful ocean without a single complaint! He had a wealth of knowledge about fish and was very safety-conscious, so I felt completely at ease the entire time. It was so much fun that the half-day tour flew by in the blink of an eye.
I’ve heard that depending on the tides, Baraas Island sometimes disappears under the water and other times becomes a beach. It was submerged when I visited. If you’d like to go when the beach is visible, it’s a good idea to check the tide schedule in advance and plan your visit accordingly.
I got some really beautiful photos and made some wonderful memories. Thank you to Okkun and all the guides.
We went canoeing in the morning and snorkeling in the afternoon.
We had planned to go snorkeling on Baras Island, but due to the waves and weather, we ended up snorkeling in the nearby ocean instead.
As for the canoeing, we split into two groups and headed to the mangrove forest.
I was able to experience the beauty of nature and enjoy a fun time canoeing.
While snorkeling, I could see coral right away even in the shallow waters, and there were lots of fish as well.
(Omitted)
They'll take photos for you, so when the guide dives deep, that's your chance to snap a picture ✌️
By the way, a guy named Okkun was in charge of both the first and second halves.
He's full of energy and very supportive, so if you're ever in a bind, feel free to ask him for advice on anything 🙆♀️
